Dear friends,

Several of you have asked for copies of my sermon from Sunday with the Thanksgiving Prayer. It is attached. I say it in the sermon, but I’ll repeat it here. The credit for the prayer goes to Diana Butler Bass. Many of you have read her books or heard her speak here. And since it’s Thanksgiving week I’ll give a plug for one of those books, Grateful: The Transformative Power of Giving Thanks. It’s a good book to read anytime, but is especially appropriate during the holiday season.

One of the newsletters I subscribe to is by Dan Rather, who at age 93 is still going strong reporting and writing. Every Sunday he titles the newsletter “A Reason to Smile.” That reason is always a link to a song that he likes. I find I usually like them, too. The link for this past Sunday didn’t make me smile, it made me laugh out loud. It was a clip from Saturday Night Live’s Thanksgiving show 48 years ago. I remember watching it in college, but what made me laugh was that it was Joe’s all time favorite SNL skit. He laughed and laughed when he remembered it every Thanksgiving. It’s Paul Simon, singing Still Crazy After All These Years, dressed in a giant turkey outfit. I hope it gives you a reason to smile, too.

Several of you asked a while back to let you know when my book was available on Amazon. It has been for a while, but I keep forgetting to tell you. You can find it at the link below. I got my first royalty check a couple of weeks ago. It was a whopping $78.34. I think that means I’ll be working here for a while longer.

As I think of things I am thankful for the top of the list is the privilege of being rector of St. Dunstan’s for the past two decades. Whether you were here my first Sunday 20 years ago, or have come for the first time in the last few weeks, I am grateful for each and every one of you. There is no place I would rather be.

Happy Thanksgiving!

With love,

Tricia
