Dear friends,
Summer is often a difficult time for families, especially ones who depend on things like free school breakfasts and lunches. Demand is up at the Solidarity Food Pantry in Sandy Springs. Let’s try to help our neighbors by helping the pantry restock its shelves. Yesterday I reminded us of the mountains of food that were brought here and then taken to the pantry during the pandemic. We might not get a mountain every week now, but let’s aim for at least a hill. Here is a list of the pantry’s greatest needs, although we aren’t limited to these things;
- Cheerios or Granola
- Peanut Butter
- Jelly
- Pasta
- Spaghetti
- Spaghetti Sauce (plastic jars from Aldi are awesome)
- Diced Tomatoes
- Canned Tuna
- Canned Chicken
- Canned Pineapple
We are also helping children in another way. The vestry has voted to send $3,000 to support the Emmaus House Freedom School. Freedom Schools, developed by the Children’s Defense Fund, target neighborhoods where a high percentage of children may be behind in reading levels. They are designed to help children catch up, and not lose ground, in their reading skills. We have been financial supporters of the school for many years.
Several of you have asked about my sermon from yesterday. Since I threw out what I had prepared and preached off the cuff with only a few notes, I did not have anything to send. But I transcribed it from the video, and it is attached.
And finally, if you were here yesterday you may have noticed the glorious hibiscus bushes in front of the church. I have never seen this many blooms before. Enjoy!

With love,
Tricia
