Dear friends,

Today is the anniversary of a life-changing event in the Episcopal Church, the ordination of the first 11 women to the priesthood. I was so sorry to miss the celebration of that and the 30th anniversary of Mary and Martha’s Place at the service yesterday. My uncle, my mother’s brother, died at age 94 on Thursday and his funeral was in Anderson, SC yesterday afternoon. It was important that I be there.

I got home about 9:30 last night to a message from the diocesan communications director, Easton Davis. He has put together a beautiful video including women priests in this diocese reflecting on the anniversary and their own lives in ministry. Easton called me because he had found an op-ed piece I wrote for the AJC on the 40th anniversary, and he wanted to update it and use it. I had forgotten that I had written it. It was easy to update. You can find it and the video here. Easton is planning on highlighting the work of the clergy women in this diocese throughout the year.
