Sunday Worship
Worship is central to everything we do at St. Dunstan’s. Coming together as a community to sing, pray, hear the stories of our faith, hear the word of God interpreted in sermons, and receive nourishment through the Eucharist forms and shapes us. Worship is planned with great care, and we strive to make our services beautiful and meaningful. At the same time we are relaxed together and before God. It’s ok to laugh, to clap, to make a mistake. We take what we do seriously, without being too serious about ourselves.
Every Sunday there are two services of Holy Eucharist. The early service has no music. The smaller congregation stands around the altar for the Eucharist. The late service includes music. Our services typically use Rite II from the Book of Common Prayer, with occasional substitutes from approved alternative worship sources.
Our Sunday morning services take a village to prepare for and carry out. Members bake bread for the Eucharist, serve on the altar and flower guilds, sing in the choir, serve as readers and chalice bearers, acolytes, greeters and ushers. Our youngest members often help take up the offering. Our sacred time together continues after worship in the parish hall, where members rotate serving coffee and treats. The coffee hour is the time we catch up with one another and welcome visitors and new members into the community.
