Dear friends,

Happy October! It is one of my favorite months of the year with its hints of cooler weather and color slowly showing on the trees. It is also the month of two of St. Dunstan’s favorite annual events — the Blessing of the Animals and the Flying Pig BBQ.

The animal blessings are this Sunday at both services. There will be no Sunday School. It is a great time to invite your animal-loving friends to church. All kinds of furry, feathered, or finned creatures are welcome, although we ask that they be on a leash or in some sort of carrier. We bless the animals, but we’re also acknowledging what a blessing they are to us. Our lives are enriched by our pets. I really can’t imagine life without them.

The BBQ will be on October 25, after the 10:45 service. We will have both services that day. Sign up sheets to help and for side dishes will be available in the parish hall soon.

One more annual event that I enjoy this month is October baseball, especially when the Braves are involved. They are playing in October this year, at least for one night. If they can beat the hated Phillies tonight they will make it to the next round of the playoffs. This year the Chicago White Sox, the favorite team of Pope Leo, are also in the playoffs. When asked if he prayed for them to win, the pope answered, “No comment.” They won the first round yesterday.

Here is a typical evening in my house. They won’t be here Sunday, but they’ll get a home blessing.

With love,

Tricia
