Dear friends,
It is 96 degrees outside and there are three more weeks of summer. But the calendar turned to September this morning and thoughts of fall are hanging in the still humid air. It is a fun time of year in the church with lots of good things on the calendar. Here are the highlights through the end of the year. I’m so glad I will be here to enjoy them with you.
With love,
Tricia
September 6th & 13th — We continue on our summer schedule of one service at 10 a.m.
September 20th — We kickoff the new program year with a celebration of Ghana. There is no 8:30 service, but Sunday School begins at 9:30 with Dr Beth-Sarah Wright, the director of the Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing, talking about the center’s work and the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Ghana, which she leads. She will also preach at the 10:45 service. One of our partnerships with Ghana is support of a sewing school for teenage girls to give them a way to make a livelihood. The clothes, purses, bags that they make will be for sale. And Brian’s Ghanian drumming students will add to the festivities. There will be lunch after the service.
September 27th — The “regular” schedule resumes with the return of the 8:30 service. Sunday school continues with Tricia and Colin sharing their Ghana experiences.
October 4th — Blessing of the Animals at both services. No Sunday School.
October 25th — The Flying Pig BBQ! One service at 10 a.m. followed by lunch.
November 1st — All Saints’ Day with baptisms.
November 8th — Field trip to Pullman Yards to see the Banksy Art Show. Leave the church parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Those interested can purchase tickets at the link below. It takes about an hour to view the show.
November 29th — The First Sunday of Advent. That afternoon there will be a memorial service for long-time parishioner Margaret Michaelides, who died in Cyprus last year.
December 6th — Advent Lessons & Carols at 4 p.m.
December 20th — One service at 10 a.m., including the decorating of the Christmas tree, followed by a festive holiday breakfast.
December 24th — Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m., preceded by special music.
December 27th — One service of Christmas Lessons & Carols at 10 a.m.
