Dear friends,

When I was a senior in high school I had the privilege of interviewing legendary Atlanta Constitution reporter and columnist Celestine Sibley. Celestine went on to become a good friend and mentor and we had many conversations over the next quarter century, but I will always remember something she told me that first time we met. No matter what was going on in her life, she said, her heart always lifted when she walked into the newsroom. Celestine knew the importance of what a New York Times article called “the incalculable value of work that you love.”

I thought of Celestine’s words today because 22 years ago on this date I began as rector of St. Dunstan’s. And like Celestine, I can honestly say that no matter what is going on in my life, or in the congregation, or the world, my heart always lifts when I pull into St. Dunstan’s parking lot. From day one it has been a joy and a privilege to be here.

I am observing this anniversary while on vacation. Tomorrow Deborah Silver will be with you as I head to the beach. Maggie will be with you the following two Sundays. I’ll be back in the office on August 17.

Time away is a gift. But the even bigger gift is having work that I love to return to when vacation is over. I’ll see you in a few weeks.

With love,

Tricia
