Dear friends,
A week ago this time I was in the recovery room at Piedmont Hospital, waiting for a room to become available. Today I had my first post-op appointment with my surgeon, who was pleased with the way my leg is healing and with the progress I am making in physical therapy. I really didn’t know what to expect after surgery. The surgeon warned me repeatedly to expect intense pain for at least the first two weeks. Almost everyone I talked to who has had knee replacement had a different story to tell. So far, I am glad to say that my story is that it has not been nearly as bad as I had anticipated. From the beginning I have been able to get around with a walker, and to go up and down stairs. The pain is manageable. There is still a ways to go. I still have 30 staples in my leg. I’m still taking some pain meds, although that is lessening. It will be another couple of weeks before I can drive. There is still a lot of physical therapy. But things are much better a week out than I would have predicted. I am so grateful for all the prayers, notes, meals, and offers of help. And thanks to Joseph Henry, who has been a very attentive care giver. All of that is a large part of healing. Please keep the prayers coming.
I have been entertained during my convalescence by a mama and three baby foxes living under our deck and frolicking in our backyard. These photos are all taken through windows with my iPhone. They’re not going to win any photography awards, but it has been fun checking in on them every day.
With love,
Tricia
