Dear friends,

I’m looking forward to Sunday as we kick off a new program year. It should be a fun day. Dr, Beth-Sarah Wright, director of the diocese’s Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing, will be our guest teacher and preacher. Sunday School will begin at 9:30 and worship at 10:45. Dr. Wright will talk about the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Cape Coast, Ghana, in which Colin and I have both participated.  For worship we will be joined by the 2027 Ghana Pilgrimage group, about 25 people from across the diocese and South Carolina. We’ll also have special music by Brian’s Ghanaian drumming students.

After church is a potluck lunch. We’ll provide the fried chicken, and ask that you bring side dishes. We will have a lot of guests to feed so please bring more than you might normally bring. It’s a chance to show off our hospitality.

One other special thing on Sunday will be a sale of clothing made by women in Ghana. The Anglican Diocese of Cape Coast, in partnership with our diocese, runs a sewing school to teach teen-age girls a skill that will support them. It is a two-year program, with students from across the country living on the grounds of the diocesan center. Some of their products — dresses, shirts, and bags, will be for sale in a room off the parish hall. St. Dunstan’s has a special connection with the school. The school director had hoped to give each graduate her own sewing machine and sewing kit, but the $180 cost was prohibitive. Our vestry voted this spring to foot that cost. So this year’s seven graduates will receive brand new sewing machines and sewing kits from you. We hope to make this an annual gift from our outreach funds.

That’s a lot of special things for one day! I hope you will join us for all of it.

With love,

Tricia
